Ford Renews Bestselling SUV Kuga

The New Ford Kuga Impresses with Enhanced Hybrid Drives and Increased Towing Capacity

The confident exterior complements the clean interior design, featuring a standard 13.2-inch touchscreen and Ford SYNC 4 infotainment with cloud-based 5G internet connectivity. Advanced driver and safety assistance systems, including improved adaptive cruise control, boost driver confidence and comfort.

The successful Ford Kuga* undergoes a comprehensive product upgrade. The SUV model, developed in Europe for Europe, hits the roads from summer 2024 with a refreshed design, enhanced connectivity, and additional state-of-the-art assistance systems. On the engine front, the bestseller focuses on electrified drives, combining exceptional fuel efficiency with exhilarating performance. The Kuga PHEV* with plug-in hybrid technology, catering to customers with permanent access to a wallbox or charging station, boasts a purely electric range of up to 69 kilometers1. The all-wheel-drive Kuga Hybrid AWD* functions as a full hybrid (FHEV) and can cover up to 64 percent of its urban journeys1 locally emission-free, with a full tank reaching around 900 kilometers2. Both model versions are authorized to tow braked trailers, boats, or horse trailers with a total weight of 2.1 tons—a more than 30 percent increase and a best-in-class achievement. As a third engine option, Ford offers a 1.5-liter EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine* for the new Kuga, delivering 110 kW (150 PS).

The Kuga PHEV led the European sales statistics3 for plug-in hybrid vehicles in 2021 and 2022. Projections suggest a repeat of this market success for the past year. The order process for the new model kicks off in January 2024.

"Since its debut in 2008, the Ford Kuga has become a bestseller," explains Jon Williams, Managing Director of Ford Blue Europe. "With the new Kuga, we are now introducing the best version of this SUV model to date. It achieves a new level of performance, connectivity, and comfort."

Striking Design and Seamless Connectivity

With a fresher, more confident appearance, Ford has significantly enhanced the new Kuga both inside and out. One of the most distinctive features of the new Kuga is a prominent LED light strip for the front, stretching across the redesigned grille proudly displaying Ford's brand logo, visually connecting the two main headlights. Three trim levels are available: the smart Titanium variant, the sporty Kuga ST-Line, and the new Active version with unique design features and distinct personalities. All three versions can be optionally upgraded with an X-option, featuring, among other things, 18-way electrically adjustable front seats with premium Sensico and Neo-Suede upholstery with leather-like appearance.

Internally, the new Kuga impresses with even more refined connectivity. The latest generation of the communication and entertainment system5, Ford SYNC 4, comes with double the processing speed of the previous model and a 13.2-inch touchscreen. Its onboard 5G modem provides a lightning-fast internet connection, benefiting the cloud-based navigation system by ensuring access to up-to-date traffic information and displaying congestion-free routes. Smartphones can be wirelessly integrated via Android Auto or Apple CarPlay6. New and also factory-installed is Alexa Built-in7, Amazon's digital voice assistant, utilizing Artificial Intelligence to answer passenger questions and simplify the operation of the new Kuga. The service works even without a paired smartphone.

Ford SYNC 4 also supports the driver when towing a trailer with the new Kuga: The Trailer Tow Navigation function suggests a route without tight turns, low bridges, and other obstacles. The driver can input the dimensions of the trailer in advance using the Trailer Connection Checklist.

Cutting-edge Technology from Production to Assistance Systems

Equipped with advanced comfort and safety assistance systems, the new Ford Kuga makes driving easier and more straightforward under all conditions. The latest version of the adaptive cruise control, for example, can now automatically adjust speed before curves or turns by applying the brakes. The virtual 360-degree camera provides a top-down view on the onboard monitor during parking, revealing hidden obstacles at speeds of up to ten km/h and making trailer attachment child's play.

The upgraded adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go function now includes the predictive speed assistant. If necessary, it adjusts the driving speed before curves, roundabouts, and on deceleration and acceleration lanes according to the respective conditions. The functionally expanded Intersection Assistant8 now observes oncoming traffic when turning left and also detects motorcycles and bicycles, as well as pedestrians crossing a lane where the Kuga driver intends to turn. The new Kuga also gains two systems for reversing: the Rear-View Emergency Braking and Cross Traffic Alert, which take over the functions of Cross Traffic Alert when reversing. If they detect objects in the path, they warn the driver of a potential collision and apply emergency brakes if necessary.

Advanced lighting technology guides the Kuga driver safely in the dark and challenging visibility conditions. The new SUV model comes standard with LED headlights with high beam assist. Optionally, LED matrix headlights with Dynamic Pixel function are available. They use data from the navigation system and front camera to illuminate upcoming curves, intersections, roundabouts, or traffic signs brightly. This also makes it easier to spot pedestrians and cyclists on the roadside.

The practical features of the new Kuga also benefit from the product upgrade. The rear seats can be slid forward and backward as needed. The effect: Passengers in the second row can either enjoy a vast footwell with a depth of more than a meter, or the volume of the luggage compartment increases by up to 140 liters. Optionally, Ford also offers special comfort seats for the driver and front passenger, providing support to the back where it is most needed, and carrying the Aktion Gesunder Rücken (AGR) seal of approval.

Like the previous model, the new Kuga is produced at the state-of-the-art Valencia plant. In the manufacturing of selected parts, advanced 3D printers are employed, enabling particularly accurate and sustainable production. For the highest processing quality and efficient production processes, Ford engineers also utilize tools with Artificial Intelligence.
